Spring has sprung and good things are happening

Great news this week! Speak Out - The Documentary has won the Gold Kahuna Award at the Honolulu Film Awards! Alix Vander Vlugt, founder of the student run Speak Out anti-bullying organization and filmmaker extraordinaire has wowed them in Hawaii with his powerful and moving film. I'm proud to have been able to tell Steven's story through Alix's work. His talent and dedication to the cause are inspiring. Well done, Alix!

I'm still here

Well... I'm back. In an ironic (and frankly annoying) twist, I've been off line for a couple weeks dealing with personal issues. Luckily, I know where to find resources to deal with depression and other problems - right here. It's been tough, and continues to be a struggle at times, but the worst is over. Next month will be a challenge as well, because it would have been Steven's 19th birthday. I'm not looking forward to that, but life will go on...

We need to stay focused

The Daily Caller published an article that illustrates one problem with some people's attitudes. The author utterly misses the point. She suggests that the anti-bullying movement believes that the "Ohio teen who shot five people at his high school this week...should have been empowered to be himself." This is complete nonsense. The boy should have been helped before he got to the point where he picked up a gun. He may have gone on a shooting spree anyway, we may never know for sure. Somebody should have been paying attention
